"Do Baskets Dream of Flying Fish"

An art installation featuring thirteen Vietnamese thúng chài (basket boats) as emissaries of memory, matter, and meaning.

About

Some Dreams Travel 7,600 Miles To Come True.

Thúng chài—woven bamboo basket boats— represents  livelihoods, resilience, freedom and a living wisdom between humans and the ocean. Now, they voyage across desert sands to Burning Man 2026, bearing the songs, salt, and stories of those who shaped them.

Suspended between existential waters of obsolescence and staged tourism, the piece invites a collective dreaming of 80,000 souls, forming an Axis Mundi—a liminal space between worlds remembered and forgotten.

“The hands remember what the mind forgets.” — Lao Tzu
